Level 1 Operator - American Original Building Products

We are looking for an energetic, reliable, and team-oriented individual to work as a materials handler and operator on our building products line. A successful candidate for this full-time position will be working overnight twelve hour shifts from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. with generous opportunities for overtime hours and pay.

Position Purpose: 

The Level 1 Operator - AOBP performs a variety of operation/service functions within the department. This would include but not be limited to: pulling parts off conveyor line, keeping production operations supplied, mixing plastic resins/blowing agents, relieving on plastic injection presses, transporting finished inventory and supplies, trims flash when required, boxes and completes boxes of parts, labels boxes, inspects parts coming off the conveyor line, fills paint containers and performs cleaning/custodial functions on area and equipment and for the department.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Pulls parts off conveyor line, packs parts in boxes, completes boxes and labels boxed parts;
  • Trims flash, sprues or gates using, knife, clippers or heat gun as necessary;
  • Cleans/wipes grease oil or other foreign contaminants from molded part if evident;
  • Completes required information on labels prior to placing on packaging;
  • Assembles boxes, place boxes on pallets using a vacuum lift, places pallets on load table;
  • Assembles parts if required, places part into fixture and performs secondary operations of required;
  • Inspects part per work instruction, established quality criteria and documents findings;
  • Notifies shift Technical Supervisor, inspector and/or Color Technician of reject conditions found during shift;
  • Records part quantities produced during shift (both good and bad parts);
  • Communicates specific job requirements to following shift personnel;
  • Performs duties in accordance with all related company and departmental procedures;
  • Fills colorant and paint containers as indicated on the shop order;
  • Transports supplies to and from production floor using a lift truck, bands and shrink wraps skids of finished product, replaces empty tanks on lift truck following safety procedures;
  • Empties and cleans colorant containers, hopper loaders and paint containers;
  • Delivers and removes all packaging materials to and from the production floor, transports finished goods to the warehouse and loads tractor trailers as required;
  • Records resins and paint lots transferred to production floor, labels all material containers or production bins, performs and records inventory counts;
  • Performs routine light maintenance in the department such as cleaning the injection press and auxiliary and paint line equipment, as well as the general production floor;
  • Performs and records inventory counts, updates inventory transfer documents when required;
  • May move yard trailers if required;
  • Performs other duties as assigned and directed.

Requirements: 

Education: High school education or higher. Equivalent in experience.

Knowledge: An ability to read and write. Aptitude for basic math. Able to add and subtract. Must be able to follow verbal as well as written instructions and measure accurately.

Experience: 6 months or more experience in plastic injection molding and driving a tow motor is preferred. Must have a valid active driver’s license. Must be able to differentiate colors and pass a color test. Must pass a physical requirements exam including drug test and be willing and able to work overtime including 12 hour shifts.

Independent Judgment: Slight. Uses when mixing, driving a tow motor, picking up supplies/inventory and taking inventory inspecting parts.

Quality: Follows regulatory, company, and departmental procedures and policies implicitly. In the execution of their job functions, AOBP Level 1 operator personnel must focus on the quality aspect of their activities. Each assigned activity has at least a direct if not an indirect effect on the profitability of the department. Doing the job right the first time and in a timely manner is important to meeting AOBP expectations.

Physical Exertion: Routinely lifts 25 - 75 lbs. Requires lifting of heavy items; job requires being on feet most of the shift; bends, twists, stoops, walks, lifts and extensively uses hands, wrists and shoulders, legs waist and back; uses hand/eye coordination to drive tow motor and fill hoppers; has to work with and around heat and dust; must be able to climb (to load hoppers) and work comfortably at heights; must be able to operate tumblers.

Tools: Band saws, knife(s) , screw driver, hammer, wrenches, pry bars, cans/drums, mixing tumblers, parts scale, staple machine, mills, clippers, pliers, sanders, funnels, markers, pencils, conveyor ramps, automatic floor sweepers, brushes, vacuum loaders, lift trucks, tape machines, band machines, truck docks, propane tanks, vacuums, brooms, absorbents, rags, gloves, dust masks, ladders, platforms, vacuum lift, lift tables, pallets, rules, calipers, spectrophotometer, and glasses/goggles.

Attendance: Must be in attendance on a regular, fulltime basis and conform to all company attendance policies. Must be available and willing to work all shifts and overtime (including weekends) as necessary/required.
